Speculative works developed in our studio — conceived for specific contexts, available for commission. These pieces do not yet exist. Any of them could.
Most people cannot picture a commission until they see something close to it. These proposals exist to close that gap — to show what becomes possible when the medium is taken seriously and the scale is allowed to be ambitious.
Each proposal is site-referenced, material-resolved, and ready to develop into a full commission brief. Dimensions, finish, and site integration are all adaptable.

FLIGHT 2
Tribute Sculpture
Following the theft of Llew Summers' Flight from its site at Mount Pleasant, Unfound has been commissioned to create a faithful tribute at original scale, restoring the work to the community and to the stone plinth it once stood on.
No master pattern, mould, or laser scan of the original bronze survives. The sculpture will be sculpted entirely by hand.
Sculpted in glass fibre reinforced concrete over a steel armature, the work will be finished in a sealed bronze powder treatment consistent with the surface character and tone of the original — a material approach that honours the bronze while bringing the piece within reach of the community that lost it.

PROPOSAL 02
1010
Monolithic Rock Counter
A three metre monolithic, hand sculpted GRC counter for 1010, a proposed high-end menswear store in Auckland, planned for 2027.
Conceived as functional art, the counter takes the raw, fractured character of natural rock and translates it into a singular architectural form. A rugged, geological exterior contrasts with the precision and refinement of the retail environment, creating a substantial sculptural centrepiece that is both tactile and purposeful.
Hand sculpted to achieve the character and irregularity of real stone, the GRC shell offers the visual weight of a solid rock formation without the practical limitations of fabricating the entire counter from stone. The proposal focuses exclusively on the bespoke rock effect shell, designed to integrate with separately fabricated retail cabinetry.

PROPOSAL 03
Te Whetū Kairangi — The Standing Pilot
Worser Bay Underwater Sculpture Trail, Wellington
James Heberley came to Wellington Harbour in 1839 and never truly left. He was the harbour’s first pilot, the man who read the weather, the current, and the harbour entrance to guide every incoming vessel safely through. He spoke te reo Māori, married into Ngāti Ira, witnessed the founding of a city, and was the first European to summit Mount Taranaki. The bay bears his nickname: he always said the weather would get worser.
He died on 26 September 1899, aged 91. He had climbed from his window in the night and walked to the harbour at Picton. He was found floating upright in the water, his stick still in his hand, a walking stick carved by his son Jacob, a celebrated Māori carver. He went back to the sea the way a pilot would.
This sculpture proposes a single standing figure, abstract, not literal, in black GRC, approximately 1.8 metres, feet buried in the sand of the Worser Bay seafloor. No face. No detail. Only the fact of standing, upright, in the water, stick in hand. The piece does not illustrate the story; it holds its weight. Caustic light from the surface above moves across the form as it does across all things underwater, restless, unhurried, indifferent to time.
The black GRC surface is designed to colonise gradually. Marine growth will find the texture of the form over months and years, as it finds all things that stand still long enough in the sea. The stick, cast separately, socketed into the hand, will be the last thing to disappear.
GRC is pH-neutral once cured, non-toxic, and structurally suited to permanent immersion. The figure’s feet are cast as a broad base plate buried into the sand substrate, anchoring the form without mechanical fixing to the seabed. We are actively seeking engagement with the Boat & Beach Wise Trust, the Worser Bay Boating Club, and the project’s iwi and community partners.
